There are more than 12 different species of Magnolia. Some are evergreens while others are deciduous. The species most common to the southern US is Magnolia grandiflora. This oil is from an Asian species, Magnolia alba. It has some similarity in scent to the more familiar American magnolia. Citrusy top notes, somewhat reminiscent of neroli and petitgrain but also an unmistakable black tea note. I recommend for diffuser and/or perfume work.

I really like AromaEasy essential oils, they’re high quality and I trust their sources. This Magnolia is a very interesting scent. Very potent. It’s floral, kind of fruity, and strangely a little soapy smelling too. This one takes a lot of diluting so I’m sure my small bottle will last a long time.

I have loved magnolia trees and their intoxicatingly scented, elegant flowers since childhood. The fresh, spicy, woody, yet sultry-sweet feminine scent of a real magnolia blossom evokes warm nostalgia for my wonderful childhood growing up in rural east TX and is so calming for me. I have been searching so long for a magnolia scent that is just pure essence of Magnolia Grandiflora – not mixed with other notes, not a perfume-y version just called “Magnolia” – and had almost given up. When I first opened my AromaEasy bottle and sniffed a big schnoz-full, the scent was eye-wateringly strong, pungent/sharp and rough, and I wondered if I had made another disappointing choice. BUT: After diluting the tiniest drop or two with a carrier oil and smoothing onto my inner wrists and behind ears, the fragrance mellowed and evolved on my skin into the most gorgeous, spicy/woodsy/musky/floral and, most importantly, ACCURATE magnolia scent I have ever encountered outside of an actual magnolia flower. It was incredibly complex and perfectly captured not just the sweet flower essence but the scent of the bark, leaves, the whole tree… I was enchanted and spent the next 3+ hours blissfully snuffling at my forearms like a fetishist weirdo. On my skin it didn’t take very long to warm, evolve and fade, but I’ll play around with the dilution, carrier, etc. to see if I can give it more tenacity. My quest is over, and I am in love..thank you so much, AromaEasy!
